Warm and dry that's how we started the day. The rain caught us 12 miles down the road.
Day 1: Sometimes You Just Can't Out Ride the Rain
Even with an early morning start the rain found us at 9 am. Soaked to the skin, covered in mud but we're on vacation and it's a great day.
Just Crossed into Pennsylvania
We're on the Ohio Turnpike
Pennsylvania Bound
With our bags in the car and our bikes on the rack we pulled out of the driveway at 5:15 pm on Friday the 13th. We thought about taking our fat tire bikes but opted for our candy apple red Diverges. Bikes equipped with disc brakes and tires that can transition between paved roads and dirt trails. Pittsburgh has thunderstorms in tomorrow's forecast, so we hope to be on our way before it rains. Fingers crossed. Maybe toes too?
Follow us as we bike the GAP
Next week we are embarking on a cycling vacation. We are leaving from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania riding to Williamsport, Maryland, then turning around pedaling back to Pittsburg. Over an eight-day period we will cover 467 miles, or approximately 58 miles a day.
I know you’re wondering about the boys. Well they’ve morphed into young men and respectfully declined the opportunity to travel with their parents at the recommend trail speed of 8-10 mph. Josh graduated from the University of Michigan Dearborn last December, is now working fulltime and prefers to spend his free time jumping out of airplanes. Jonah just wrapped up his freshman year at Michigan State University and volunteered to stay home and watch the dog.
